MG TD (1952)
Vehículo completamente restaurado y funcional, con matrícula histórica Española, para más información llamar o enviar whatsapp
Although the origins of the MG TD go back to 1936 – the year the TA was introduced – this classic roadster is a lot more user-friendly than its pre-war predecessors. When the MG TD went into production in 1950, the designers left the traditional lines of the TC largely untouched. They rather liked to spend the available development budget on the technology behind the graceful fenders and split hood.
Under its skin, the MG TD shows surprisingly few similarities with its pre-war predecessors. The ladder chassis of the MG Y-Type was used, which is 5 centimeters wider than the old TC chassis. This gives the TD’s driver and passenger extra space. The independently sprung front suspension – instead of a rigid axle, as was still used on the TC – is coupled to an instant-acting rack and pinion steering. For export, MG supplied an LHD TD, just like this one.
When the MG TD went into production in January 1950, the engine was a modern piece of technology. Enthusiasts know this four-cylinder as the XPAG engine. It has a capacity of 1250 cc and with its two SU carburettors, it delivers a healthy power of 54.5 bhp. The XPAG engine was known as an easily tweakable engine. MG itself supplied a Competition version, with a higher compression ratio. Among amateur mechanics, a mechanical compressor was a very popular modification, especially for track use. Speaking of tinkering: when the sleeves have been rolled up, the easy availability of parts is a major advantage of the MG T-type!
This MG TD has undergone a full body-off restoration. A classic, popular color scheme has been chosen for it. The exterior was painted in Woodland Green, the interior is upholstered in biscuit leather. The dashboard has been upgraded with wood veneer, in which the green instruments come into their own beautifully. The MG TD has been rebuilt with a sharp eye for detail, with the revised engine and gearbox being repainted in the original red lacquer.
Naturally, the softtop of the MG TD has also been completely renewed, in the same tasteful color as the interior trim. The chrome of the car has been beautifully restored.
The restoration of this car is fully documented. Of course, all photos are included with the car. The sale also includes a fully documented jornal of the history and restoration, all receipts including the original bill of sale when exported to the USA in 1953
